London, May 8 2016: Hundreds of environmental activists and campaigners deeply concerned at the UK government's poor record on tackling global warming and its worrying support for environmentally damaging hydraulic fracture extraction (Fracking), held a "Going Backwards on Climate Change" protest which started on Trafalgar Square and saw the protesters marching backwards down Whitehall, stopping off at the Dept for Energy & Climate Change, Downing street and the Dept of Health to listen to speeches from campaigners, climate change NGOs and renewable energy companies.

The speakers included Dame Vivienne Westwood, Sheila Menon (one of the 'Plane Stupid' campaign group who was recently spared prison following a trespass at Heathrow airport where they blocked a runway, causing 120 flights to be diverted), and Green Party leader Natalie Bennett.

Organised by Campaign Against Climate Change, groups participating included Fuel Poverty Action, Frack Off, Solar trade Association, Talk Fracking, Plane Stupid, HACAN (Heathrow Association for the Control of Aircraft Noise), ClientEarth, Time to Cycle and Friends of the Earth.
