Breaking news: more than a hundred casualties during the attack on Aleppo

Civilians remove a corpse from the rubble after intense government attacks in the town of Aleppo.

Aleppo, Syria, 03 June 2016. Early this morning the Al-Castello road was hit by regime airstrikes and 14 people were killed as a result. Since early morning, more than thirty regime air strikes and rocket attacks have hit several neighbourhoods in Aleppo, among which the neighbourhoods of Al-Khalasa, Bustan Al-Qasr, al Sukkari, Al-Ansari Mashad, Al-Salihin, Al-Halaq, Al-Jandul square, and Al-Firdaws.

Air strikes are still currently taking place and the number of casualties has reached 60 dead and more than 100 injured, among them many women and children. Many buildings have collapsed and many families have lost their home. Fighter jets are now hovering over Aleppo and because of the danger Friday prayer has been suspended in the town.

Heavy clashes are taking place between the regime army and the rebels in the southern countryside of Aleppo. While the western neighbourhoods are controlled by the government forces, the eastern neighbourhoods of Aleppo remain under rebel control.

Since the peace talks broke down, the fighting in Syria has greatly intensified. The regime, with the help of Russian air strikes, has continued its assault on Aleppo where rebels struggle to prevent the closure of the Al-Castello road and thus the siege of the town.
